As a bellydancer, we need to learn some basic Middle-Eastern Rhythms. To start with, I used the CD:Arabic Rhythms Volume Wahid, presented by Nourhan Sharif. It has the basic rhythms of Malfouf, Maksoum, Ayoub, Saidi, Fallahi, Masmoudi, Khaleggi, and Chiftitelli. These rhythms were presented in different speeds. This CD includes a simple notes on each of the rhythm. It also included 2 Egyptian Drum Solos at the end.
To learn more different rhythms, the CD: 25 Essential Rhythms by Uncle Mafufo for Middle Eastern Drumming is great. Even though it is geared more toward the drummers, but it is beneficial to the dancers too! This CD includes 25 essential Middle Eastern Rhythms from 2 beats to 10 beats. All the rhythms are counted out and written in Dun, Tec, and Ca syllables in the enclosed booklet.
After you have learned your rhythms, you can test yourselves with: The Gypsy Caravan: Caravan Rhythms, you can test yourself and listen to: Chiftitelli, Beledi, Ayoob, Masmoodi, Malfoof, Saidi, Bolero, Karachi, Beledi, Moroccan, Maksoom and Karsilama.
